  12. ARLB062 BOD meeting highlights
  13.  
  14. The Board of Directors met in Rocky Hill, Connecticut, July 15,
  15. 1994.   The following is a summary of the meeting's highlights:
  16.  
  17. The ARRL Spectrum Committee has been asked to study the bands
  18. between 420 MHz and 300 GHz to enable a better understanding of
  19. present and future activities in this region of  the spectrum,
  20. giving priority to those bands subject to spectrum reallocations by
  21. the government.
  22.  
  23. The Board commissioned an RF Safety Committee to advise the Board
  24. and staff on safe operating practices for the development of policy
  25. and educational methods and materials.  Members to be selected by
  26. the President.
  27.  
  28. The ARRL Professional Media Award was created to recognize media
  29. professionals who make distinguished contributions to the  public
  30. image of Amateur Radio.
  31.  
  32. In recognition of more than ten years of successful SAREX missions
  33. aboard space shuttle flights, the Board expressed its gratitude to
  34. the SAREX Working Group.  The Board commended the group for its
  35. efforts to make Amateur Radio communications a part of future space
  36. missions, including the Space Station.

  38. Jonathan M. LeBretton, N1MJM, of Plymouth, Massachusetts, was
  39. selected as the 1993 Hiram Percy Maxim Memorial Award winner.

  41. James Dalley, W0NAP, of Centerville, Utah, was selected as the Herb
  42. S. Brier Volunteer Instructor of the Year.
  43.  
  44. The Board picked Sheila Perry, N0UOP, of Bloomfield, Missouri, as
  45. the 1993 Professional Educator of the Year.
  46.  
  47. Rick Campbell, KK7B, of Chassell, Michigan, was selected at the
  48. winner of the Technical Excellence Award for his article,
  49. ''High-Performance, Single-Signal, Direct-Conversion Receivers,''
  50. appearing in the January 1993 issue of  QST.
  51.  
  52. The Board tabbed Len Winkler, KB7LPW, of  Phoenix, Arizona, as the
  53. recipient of the Philip J. McGan Silver Antenna Award, which
  54. recognizes outstanding achievement in the public relations arena.
  55. The Board thanked all Amateurs for their public relations efforts.
  56.  
  57. The staff was commended for developing and implementing strategies
  58. for responding to the 13-cm band challenges posed by the government
  59. reallocation plans.
  60.  
  61. The Board noted the selection of ARRL Technical Relations Manager
  62. Paul Rinaldo, W4RI as a member of the US delegation to ITU
  63. Plenipotentiary Conference, and congratulated him for his excellent
  64. service as an international representative of Amateur Radio.
  65.  
  66. The Contest Advisory Committee will study the possibility of
  67. expanding the scope of the 10 GHz contest to include all bands above
  68. 10 GHz, and report back to the Board at its 1995 Annual Meeting.
  69.  
  70. The Contest Advisory Committee will study the possibility of adding
  71. a club competition to all VHF/UHF contests and sprints.  The
  72. committee will also consider establishing a Summer Sprint series.
  73.  
  74. The Board selected Peoria, Illinois, as the site of the 1996
  75. National Convention.  The convention will be held September 13-15
  76. under the sponsorship of the Peoria Area Amateur Radio Club.
  77.  
  78. Dallas/Ft. Worth was selected at the site of the 14th ARRL Digital
  79. Conference to be co-sponsored by the Tucson Amateur Packet Radio
  80. Corporation (TAPR) and the Texas Packet Radio Society in September
  81. 1995.
